This sweet little all hand sewn cloth doll is wearing an antique red cotton dress. Her nice little chunky body has shaped legs and feet. Her arms also a shaped and end in a well defined mitten hand. Her embroidered face is done in a brown floss and her hair is very bold over lapping stitches giving it a very folky look. She is jointed shoulders and hip. She is very firmly packed with rags...

Old, worn, hand sewn, holey, patched, replaced arm, and simply wonderful package. She is heavy rag stuffed, has an old curvy body and is wearing a very early handsewn dress that is sewn on. Her animal friend is hand sewn, stuffed sort of firmly, has funny 2nd generation ears and little black floss stitches for eyes. It doesn't need to be complicated to be great. Here is a very nice all original wooden doll that is 15" tall. She has a great painted face, jointed arms and legs, original clothes I think but at least they were made for her and they are early. Under her dress she has a wool petticoat and the a cotton one and then another cotton one and the pantaloons. She is wearing a matching bonnet. Condition is great...

At first glance she looks like one to me but a southern belle all dressed up in the 1880's would not ever consider putting forth anything resembling a scowl. To give her the benefit of the doubt it is more of a pensive look. Her bright blue eyes would sparkle with a smile but she is what she is. Her face is watercolor and ink and nicely done. This is a nice antique cloth doll with a sweet embroidered face. She has blue eyes with eyelashes all the way around and pink floss mouth. It is a surprise that her face does not show any anger or humiliation from the extreme hairdo. I can just see the little girl with her mother's pointy scissors clipping all her hair with great satisfaction. She was a blond and there is a small fringe that frames her face and then rows of stitches on the back of her head that at one time was securing yarn hair...

This is a very nice 19th C. black cloth doll with strong embroidered face. She is as found and is wearing an antique plaid dress that is all hand sewn, with a very fine wool petticoat under it and knit bloomers. Her body is stockinette that is over black cotton lining and she is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs and knees are jointed. Her condition shows wear on some of the stockinette and her face has little picky holes that have been sort of mended, see picture...

I know that look, it says, I know what you are thinking and you better not say it! I wonder if she knows that I was going to comment on her hair-do? She is hand sewn and has a linen face and body that is cotton stuffed. Her dress looks like it has been on her forever. She has red high top shoes that are sewn on, nice under clothes and real hair that might be original. Her face has a very straight pinched nose, one long of red floss stitch for her mouth and pencil drawn eyes and eyebrows...

All hand sewn from the nicest of material, this topsy turvy has style and detail sewing. Both faces are painted, the black face is on egg wash cotton and the white side is on fine linen. She doesn't show signs that she was played with much if at all. Their hands are mitten shape and out of the same material as their faces. There is a little water staining at the bottom of the blue polka dot skirt and her net bonnet is shredding at the top...

This fine black doll is in wonderful condition. Her face is embroidered and her eyes are jet buttons that are very effective and her hair is astrakhan (lambs wool used for trim on coats in the late 1800's). Her arms are attached at her shoulders, her legs are continuous but she sits easily. She is wearing an early black skirt, a black calico dress over the skirt, and then a red apron/skirt over the dress...

What do you think, I think she was maybe made with big round eye glasses for an adorable little girl who had glasses just like these? Not only does she wear glasses but this is a second face under this one...

This small pencil drawn face doll is all cotton stuffed, hand sewn, wonderful clothes, little pigeon toed feet with worn black socks. Her dress is lined with lace trim, under that she has a blouse and petticoat. The close-up camera shot sees her face as lighter and the pencil drawing darker than it really is. Sometimes a doll can be appreciated for the marvel of the maker and the caretakers of a doll. She has had loving hands restore her body more than once with really skilled hands. Her body is fashioned like a leather body but there is no leather under this doll's layers of jersey, cotton, linen and maybe a little wool. Her body is so interesting that she would look good exhibited without clothes. She is very firmly stuffed with rags. Her simplistic face is adorable with bead eyes a protruding nose...

In this wonderful, finely embroidered face, black doll you can see fatigue. It makes me wonder just who did make this very fine cloth doll. She is wearing a calico skirt under a work apron, with a blouse and a shoulder scarf. On her feet are hand sewn fabric boots. She is jointed, stuffed firmly with cotton, is holding a baby wearing a bonnet and a bow. The baby has a stump body wrapped with fabric and doesn't appear to be something you take out of her arms. This is a tiny wooden doll wearing her original clothes. She has on a golden brown silk dress with blue trim. Under her dress she is wearing a fabulous woolen petticoat with a white petticoat under that. She has wooden arms and no legs. I don't feel any attachment under her skirt just the wooden body but she likely had legs. She has original paint still on her head and face. Her silk dress is shredding on the skirt front exposing the great petticoat but the trim of the dress still is around ...

Boy dolls are just hard to find, fewer were made but when found they are more likely to have good clothes. Boys liked policeman, soldiers, construction workers and sailors. This great sailor is 21" tall, has a nicely embroidered face, is all hand sewn, has the four seam head and has really nice hands with fingers and thumbs. He is very firmly stuffed with cotton. No mistaking this boy doll as a girl. Again great ears and behold the eyes. Did the mother making this doll know and want this look or did it just happen in the making. He is precious. His face is sepia ink on fine linen. His face is a second face but really old. It would be easy enough to take it off but I would never touch it, he is too good to mess with. Wearing an old red calico dress with blue checked apron, this tired little lady is resting her weary bones. Her cotton stuffed body is all original, the right side of her face has some over paint of pinkish white that is a very old over paint, it doesn't fluoresce, but it doesn't seem to be hiding anything either. a secrets that I guess she isn't willing to give up. She has jointed shoulders, elbows, hips and knees allowing her to sit and look good. She is 15" tall, reddish brown painted on hair...
