I think she is one tough cookie. Very stern with a small little straight line for a mouth, long straight pinched nose and big button eyes outlined in red floss. She has astrakhan hair, a nice early shaped body, jointed at the shoulders and hips and packed firmly with cotton. The dress is sewn on and fits really well. It is silk and a little fragile around the top of the sleeves where it is gathered and puffy. A white petticoat is under the dress and black socks cover her nicely shaped feet...

Not all dolls that are 17" tall look 17" tall and this in one of those dolls. Her stockinette body, while it is curvy is not big, it is softly stuffed and small around. My index finger and thumb go around her waist and touch. Her face kind of looks embroidered in pictures but it is a really nicely painted. It is not fragile even though the paint has body to it, maybe it is an oil paint. Under her painted mouth she has a two stitch mend. Her hair is made with, astrakhan, a lambs wool trim...

In this wonderful, finely embroidered face, black doll you can see fatigue. It makes me wonder just who did make this very fine cloth doll. She is wearing a calico skirt under a work apron, with a blouse and a shoulder scarf. On her feet are hand sewn fabric boots. She is jointed, stuffed firmly with cotton, is holding a baby wearing a bonnet and a bow...

Bottle dolls are usually made to be a doorstops but this little all original girl would maybe be used as a paper weight in its day. She has a lovely embroidered face, a mop hat, a shoulder scarf and flat arms with flat little hands and an apron over an old calico skirt. The sand filled bottle is covered with the original red sock. She is just 8" tall and is sweet as they come. C. 1910-20

Big, heavy rag stuffed cloth doll has big old hands with fingers and thumbs, a great old blue and tan striped ticking body and is just all American through and through. Her big wide open face has button eyes, a couple of stitches for a nose and a straight floss sewn mouth that goes up at the corners for a hint of a smile. I am bet she has had many dresses in her day, but this nice old white and blue calico dress fits her nicely...

Very nice Beecher doll by a cottage industry in Elmira NY missionary group from 1893 to 1910. They followed a pattern but each doll is just a little different as the sewing was a group project.. This one has been recovered with black fabric over the original brown fabric. The brown fabric was not that sturdy and is often in fragile condition. She is wearing a red calico dress but probably not original. She is 20" tall

This all handsewn little linen doll has the most unusual and expressive embroidered face. A rectangle shaped mouth, fine little stitches for eyes and pupils, curvy stitches for ears and dash lines for hair, all in red floss thread. Jointed arms at shoulders and elbows, and same for the legs, at knees and hips all stuffed fairly firmly with cotton. Not original but nice, she is wearing a calico pink and red skirt, over a pair of pantaloons, with a red blouse on her top...

Little stockinette black doll with button eyes and embroidered nose and mouth. Her mouth is again the straight line across, (what I call a neutral statement), with white embroidered teeth. (I think if I made a cloth doll I would make the doll smiling but so many both black and white dolls have the straight line, I find it interesting.) She has on an old red and white cotton dress that fits nicely but I am sure is not original. She is cotton stuffed and not so firm that she can sit easily...

Wearing an old red calico dress with blue checked apron, this tired little lady is resting her weary bones. Her cotton stuffed body is all original, the right side of her face has some over paint of pinkish white that is a very old over paint, it doesn't fluoresce, but it doesn't seem to be hiding anything either. a secrets that I guess she isn't willing to give up. She has jointed shoulders, elbows, hips and knees allowing her to sit and look good...

Yup, she has the look, a perky hat, a kindly face, an hour glass body, basket carrying arms and sturdy legs that are continuous so she has a forced sit. She is all hand sewn, stuffed firmly with cotton, continuous legs so she sits from years of forced sitting. She is wearing a dress that looks like a jumper but isn't, the top is one with the bottom. She is 18" tall and is from the 1880's. Welcome to summer!

This doll looks like one a Grammy made. She has a straight none committing mouth, a V shaped nose and blue outlined eyes with black eyebrows. She had some reddish brown hair but all that is left is a thin line around her head on the seam. She has firm but not too firm cotton stuffed body that has a broad chest, and indented waist with just a bit of a flare to her hips. Jointed arms and legs but strangely doesn't have hands at the end of her arms but she has great feet, take a look...

This 1880 cloth doll has a very nicely drawn ink face with strong features softened by time. Her lips have a trace of red with a hint of a smile, her eyes are big and brown and her nose and eyebrows are a gray black this all adds up to a very kindly looking face. The black hat covers a trauma to her head and to her right ear...

Believe me I wouldn't consider bothering her. Take a look at those eyebrows, mercy, this is a doll you might exhibit by herself. That said, a few friends might help soften her around the edges. She is 26" tall with stockinette head and body, all original. She is as found with all her jewelry, white blouse, red plaid wool skirt with a lot of holes and a slip and petticoat. A man and woman black cloth dolls with composition heads. They were not made by the same person but they were sold to me as a pair and they are great together. She is 24" and very heavy. He is 27 " and is tall and lean with cool clothes. I think they are both from the 1930's. Both have early and probably have original outfits also the sun fading on the woman skirt looks like she had a different apron. They are in very good condition. A terrific pair of black dolls.

Not only is she happy, she also is a good cook. She is almost as wide as she is tall, has original clothes, great yarn hair, (see picture), embroidered face that is very well done. She is cotton stuffed, sits well and she is nice to hold. She is 18" tall and is circa 1910-20

This is a very dear doll in her very best dress and put together hat. Her body is all original and bends and sits well. Her blue print dress is a lovely fit and she is wearing lace trimmed pantaloons and petticoat. Her shoes are homemade and interesting. That means I don't really understand them but they are sewn on and she likes them. Her face has holes and mends as well as shell and bead eyes and a faint nose and embroidered mouth. This doll doesn't need any detective work to know that she is old and completely original. I think she has two other faces under this one but I would never take the risk of hating the other two faces and not being able to get this face back on. I often don't like to take socks off a doll. When you know by the looks that the socks have been on forever they never look the same when you take them off and put them back on. This lovely late 19th C. black cloth doll is made with fine polished cotton material, all hand sewn and hand painted. The white band at her neck is part of her clothing and is not a neck stabilizer. The doll and the clothes appear to be hand sewn by the same seamstress/mother/Grammy. The astrakhan hair is the best I have every seen and makes her hairdo look very fashionable.
