Amish sister doll from Holmes County Ohio that are adorable, early, rag stuffed, identical clothes but one has blue and the other green. They are early for Amish dolls on the market, probably date to the 1890's-1910. They are packed with rags giving them a great hefty feel. Condition is not an issue, everything is without rips or tears, but they do have natural age related toning. They sit easily, enjoy company and would like to make new friends. This little girl, 15", is all hand sewn, with a chunky cotton stuffed body, jointed arms and legs, embroidered face and button eyes, set a bit askew. She is wearing a little later homemade red and black polka dot dress. There is no evidence that she ever had hair. She has mitten shaped hands with nice thumbs. Over her dress she has a a white hand knit sweater. She has a few holes here and there but nothing that is causing a problem...

She can get better, she has a provenance that came with her, as follows.....

This is a homemade Raggedy Andy in his original. He is in good shape but his clothes have some holes and rips, and stains but nothing that is falling off. He has some stains that comes with his job. He is 16" tall but is a small doll, his head measures just a little over 3" across. His pants are a sturdy blue felt, and his cotton striped pinky/orange shirt a few tears on one sleeve. He is a little wonderful creature. C. 1920

Isn't he just great! He has on original clothes, maybe the jacket was added, and in a crazy way his flowery print combo suits him. Under his jacket, both his pants and his corduroy vest are sewn on. He is cotton stuffed and very soft and floppy, so leaning against another doll or sitting in a chair helps display him. He is in very condition with just a bit of a ragged hem on the bottom of one pant leg. Framing his face he has a blond fur strip representing hair...

Not all dolls have a time line built into them but this one says to me, she is 6 or 7 years old and is dressed for the first day of school. She has on a great dress that fits her perfectly. Under her dress is a one piece coverall,(I think they are called onesies) that has to have been made for her. She has a great embroidered face with big eyes, a pinched nose and little round O mouth and all of this is framed with a full head of yarn hair...

This cloth doll is 8", has continuous arms and legs, is firmly stuffed with cotton, her face has bead eyes and nose and a floss sewn mouth. Under the little plaid dress is a white petticoat. The hair on her head is fur and the shoes are little leather homemade wonders. She is petite and adorable. C. 1890 Condition, she has two little weak spots that the stuffing shows through on her chin.

A little fellow, wearing his favorite pants, made by Jackie Coogan Kid, with the label to prove it. They are adorable and so is he. The little striped shirt goes with the pants perfectly. He probably was made by the Mennonites. He has a sort of forced sit but standing is his preferred position. He has a little bit left of a pencil face. He is old for one of these dolls, I think he was made right around 1890...

Music, and she will be happy. She is stockinette, has a wonderful embroidered face with oval mouth, teeth and two lines running above her eyes and down to outline a nose. I don't see it done that way often and it is very effective. Now the hairdo is something else. It maybe be a simple as two holes that happened and the easiest solution was to stuff in some material but it actually looks like it was made that way...

This is a big blue/green heavy Amish doll, cotton and rag stuffed, solid doll with a "no no" face that I am sure came later. It is a naïve pencil or ink drawn face and has a nice look but her face was originally blank. Her body, head, and legs are all the same blue/green fabric but her arms are off white linen. They may or may not be original. Her dress is brown with a gray coverall apron and on her head is the traditional black bonnet. All the clothing is from the same era as she is 1890/1900...

Very early black cloth doll with embroidered face, raised nose, wool fabric for hair, and dressed in original blue calico roller print pants, an early brown wool vest, (so great even though it has some damage), and the collar around his neck that is all that is left from his dress shirt. His arms maybe an early replacement. He is 14" tall and C. 1870. His face is mottled color but no damage to the fabric, maybe the early dyed fabric reacted to sun over the years.

This very early little doll is made with wool batten, (sed as filler in homemade quilts). Probably a scrap left over and in the rag bag...

This is a sweet little pencil face doll, packed firmly with cotton, is jointed at the shoulders and hips. She has put-together-clothes. She has a very nice onesie, the a early petticoat and the a yellow calico blouse and a calico trimmed apron. She is play with condition, but the only real condition issue is that she is missing the end of one hand. She is circa 1880-90 and is 14" tall.

This little girl in jammies is just 10" tall, is all hand sewn, has a rattle or sound box sewn inside the back. She has bald head, pencil drawn down turned mouth, U shaped nose, pencil eyebrows, and the best embroidered bright blue eyes that jump right out at you. I would let her stay up another half hour with that cute look on her face. She is circa 1920-30

Isn't he the cutest! He stands 10" tall, has a velvet face, googly eyes and looks to be all original. He has velvet face and the same velvet for his hands and for the top of his boots. He stands when leaning against something and doesn't sit. His arms move easily but his legs are rigid. He is stuffed with something that is hard as a rock but I needle goes in easily so it isn't wood but it feels that hard. His body, arms and legs are mohair. He is in very good condition, life has been kind to him...

This wonderful homespun horse with shoe button eyes, funny little ears a great curly mane and no rips or tears. The harness has had a rough time of it but I think it is amazing there is as much left as there is. He never had anything attached to his feet. He seems to be complete and sure is adorable. He is circa 1890-1910. 7" long and 5 1/2" tall.

This little girl is going out in the world with her eyes wide open. Her eyes are buttons with 4 embroidered rings around the outside that gives her a big wide open eye look. She has the straight neutral mouth and white raised thread ending in two red dots for her nose. She is stuffed with cotton and soft enough that her continuous body/arms/legs, bend easily. Her dress is a cotton print in green and beige design with an apron over and pants under. She is a very nice quiet looking little doll. 1...

This is a very interesting doll. Her body and head are one piece of solid wood, with a hole straight through the shoulder from side to side with arms pushed in an anchored on either side. The legs, I am not sure how they are attached and the pants over her legs are sewn on and have been for a long time, see stains from the wood on the white tightly woven pants, they feel very secure. She has on a period dress that I think I put on her a long time ago with the apron over it. Her painted face is ...
