This late 19th C. stockinette doll has a lollipop head with an embroidered face that is more an suggestion of a face than a hard drawn face. Her face is open and kindly, her body is some what soft and comforting to the touch. Her clothes fit really nicely and her pantaloons and petticoat match. She is as found and her clothes feel and look like they have been on her a long time. The back of her head looks like she might have had more stitches to look like hair but only has a few now...

This small pencil drawn face doll is all cotton stuffed, hand sewn, wonderful clothes, little pigeon toed feet with worn black socks. Her dress is lined with lace trim, under that she has a blouse and petticoat. The close-up camera shot sees her face as lighter and the pencil drawing darker than it really is. The other pictures are more true to her look. Her underclothes are as found and I put on her dress. She is missing the bottom half of her left arm...

Wonderful and unusual leather black doll that is cuddly to hold. Even though she only has a blouse and skirt and pantaloons that are all sewn on, her body is stuffed with cotton with just the right amount to make her feel like there are layers and layers of clothes. Her body is made from a suede leather glove as are her arms and legs. She has a beautiful little painted face that is still good and very visible. Her lace bonnet has been pulled up and down but doesn't come off...

A most unusual black doll that has her name and owners initials written in brown ink on her bloomers. R.W. is on her right leg and DINA is on her left leg. Her face is nicely embroidered with lover's knots for pupils. She has brown floss hair that is just across her forehead, something I don't recall seeing before on any other doll. She is jointed at the shoulders and hips so she sits easily. I do feel her clothes are original...

This doll is from a collection in Maine. She is stockinette that was originally early polished cotton and was recovered 50 t0 75 years ago. So she is all original just recovered. This is not that uncommon if the doll was valued it was repaired. Old black fabric dye had iron oxide that was corrosive and weaken fabric. It is why this face has some holes. Her face has beautiful embroidery, the nose has to be the fanciest I have ever seen...

Naïve but nicely painted face doll with great red curls around her face. She is 21" tall and her body has a very broad chest that narrows into a smaller waist and hardly any flare to her hips. She is jointed at the shoulders and at the hips. She is very firmly packed with cotton. She has reinforced stitches at her neck below her chin and then stitches at the back of her neck also. She sits nicely and she knows that she is pretty. Circa 1890.

This is an all original milliner doll with paper mache head and hand carved wooden arms and legs. She has on a brown/tan dress with a scalloped petticoat and full length pantaloons. All are hand sewn. She has on green painted shoes. You can see in the picture as well as feel the hand carving of the arms and legs. You can see she has crazing on her face but it is not fragile or flaking off. Her clothing is in good condition but has age related discoloring...

This is a sweet faced little cloth doll with a pinched raised nose, button eyes, feather stitched eyebrows and pink floss mouth. I think she was a white doll first and covered about 1910 with black sateen, see picture of her legs. She has a sturdy body, simple arms and legs that do bend for sitting. She is fully jointed and has fingers and thumbs. Her hands are unique, the maker sewed the outline of the fingers with the two pieces of cloth face out and then cut around the outside so there is a raw cut that is a bit messy looking but it worked. Not all dolls that are 17" tall look 17" tall and this in one of those dolls. Her stockinette body, while it is curvy is not big, it is softly stuffed and small around. My index finger and thumb go around her waist and touch. Her face kind of looks embroidered in pictures but it is a really nicely painted. This dynamic painted face black stockinette doll is a sturdy as you get. She has a solidly packed rag body and head that is really heavy. Under the black stockinette body, her body is covered old blue and white ticking as well as her attached arms and legs. Her hair is two tone crocheted string and yarn. This is a very nice 19th C. black cloth doll with strong embroidered face. She is as found and is wearing an antique plaid dress that is all hand sewn, with a very fine wool petticoat under it and knit bloomers. Her body is stockinette that is over black cotton lining and she is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs and knees are jointed. A sweet little rag stuffed doll with a suggestion of a face. She has on aearly blue and white dress, not original but my guess it has been on her a long time. She is C. 1880-90 and 11" tall with the dress adding another inch or two.

This doll looks right. She is hand sewn, rag stuffed with some cotton stuffing, very big folky mitten hands and the best brown and red calico dress. This antique cloth doll has look that she came from Pennsylvania. She has the one continuous swooping line for her nose. She has on a flannel dress that is also hand sewn. She is rag stuffed and quite heavy. She is plump with big arms and legs and feels and looks like she is all original. Her head moves back and forth a little but is not floppy. Just out of some play box over 199 years ago. 18" tall and circa 1880-90
