A very nice spun cotton doll with a very clever way of dressing her. Her inner core is spun cotton and around that is a heavy piece of paper roll with a big of a flare so the skirt is wider at the bottom than at the waist. The use of the blanket stitch for the outline and trim she has a muff, with arms going into it and a bonnet on her head with a cloak covering her shoulders and coming to a point at the back of her skirt...

Not all dolls that are 17" tall look 17" tall and this in one of those dolls. Her stockinette body, while it is curvy is not big, it is softly stuffed and small around. My index finger and thumb go around her waist and touch. Her face kind of looks embroidered in pictures but it is a really nicely painted. It is not fragile even though the paint has body to it, maybe it is an oil paint. Under her painted mouth she has a two stitch mend. Her hair is made with, astrakhan, a lambs wool trim...

This is a 23 " cloth doll that looks more like she is 17". It is funny with dolls, some look really big and large and aren't and then some like this one that just feel and look smaller than they are. She is nicely shaped body, she is shy and doesn't like to show her face. I finally got one picture that shows the pencil features, you can see her face much better in real life...

A wonderful plain and simple antique black doll doorstop. This one is smaller than most and is made with a weighted can rather than a bottle. She is 10" tall and is just the right size to sit on a shelf or be used as a bookend. I like it when the stocking shows nice wear on the bottom and this one really does. See photo. A pair of Appalachian hand carved wooden poppet dolls with original clothes. They are in excellent condition with the exception of the apron that could easily be replaced or taken off. Their names are on labels, attached to their clothing he is Uncle Jake and she is Aunt Het. They are 10" tall, bendable joints, stand on their own, and date to the 1930's.

This is a very special black doll. She is 16" tall, is rag stuffed and heavy. She has woeful stitched face with small pearl button eyes. Her arms are jointed but her legs are not but she sits really easily. She is wearing an old red wool dress with lace at the bodice and trim around the neck and hem. She is sewn in but you can see she is wearing a fine knit onesie underneath. She has little recovered hands, someone cared enough to cover them. She has holes, the dress has holes, she is amazing...

This wonderful topsy turvey is in almost original condition. I don't think she was played with or handled that much but is definitely old and right. Both faces are done by the same hand. The are very nicely done in a very direct manner by an unskilled hand that really was good. The white doll has a bonnet and a blouse and a soft pink cotton skirt. The black doll has on a blouse and a red checked skirt. The two heads are 14" from head to head and the skirts are just a 1/2" longer...

Surprisingly this is and always has been a bottle doll door stop. She is beautifully dressed with layers of clothes. She has flax hair, and ink drawn face with a bit of a startled look. She has on a black hat with great posies across the front. I have had a few white doll doorstops but this is by far the best. She is 15" tall and is circa 1890.

This is a very nice painted face cloth doll with an all original body. The back of her head is painted brown and then a black painted strip around her face to suggest she has black hair. She is hand sewn except for her stitched defined fingers. She is 23" tall. I don't believe any of her clothes are original but are antique and they look like have been on her a while. She is stuffed with cotton and has a nice feel but is not a real heavy doll...

Just 11" tall with a great embroidered face this cloth doll has a lot going for her. She is all original. She has yarn hair, finely embroidered face with a stitch raised nose, and pouty little mouth. Her clothes are all original and sewn on. She has black velvet shoes that show wear on the toes, (how does that happen!). She has silk stockings, bloomers, lace petticoat, blue dress with a self belt and lace around the neck. She is a cute and she can be. Circa 1900

This dynamic painted face black stockinette doll is a sturdy as you get. She has a solidly packed rag body and head that is really heavy. Under the black stockinette body, her body is covered old blue and white ticking as well as her attached arms and legs. Her hair is two tone crocheted string and yarn. I have never seen this technique before but it is very effective. Her dress fits the top of her so tightly I don't think I can get it off without tearing it...

This little stockinette black doll is hand sewn and straight forward...

This late 19th C. stockinette doll has a lollipop head with an embroidered face that is more an suggestion of a face than a hard drawn face. Her face is open and kindly, her body is some what soft and comforting to the touch. Her clothes fit really nicely and her pantaloons and petticoat match. She is as found and her clothes feel and look like they have been on her a long time. The back of her head looks like she might have had more stitches to look like hair but only has a few now. Such a sweet heart with a very dainty stitched face in red and yellow thread. For such an early face it is a surprise to see that there is another one under this face. I would never remove it but it for some reason got recovered. Reminds me of a Christmas morning when I got just what I wanted, a Little LULU doll and was so thrilled. I was 8 years old, put her in my bicycle basket and rode my bike to show my best friend up the street. It was a warm NE Christmas, I hit a bump and Little Lulu ended...

This doll had the nicest look of a serene country woman. She has a long graceful neck, a slim but curvy hips and small waist. She is all original even though there is a old cloth wrap around her neck probably to stabilize her neck and it work really well. She has jointed shoulders, hips and knees. Her feet are long and nicely shaped and her ankles are thin and very nice. Her hands never did anymore than be rounded off but now one has come undone and the other is a little frayed. She is 18" tall...

This wonderful black cloth doll woman stands 24" tall, has layers of antique clothes that I feel could really be original. She is made with black cotton and her face is black sateen that is embroidered with tiny stitches. She is stuffed with cotton but not firmly so she has a soft comfy feel especially with all the layers of clothing. The softness suits her. She is 24" tall and is circa 1880-90. She is just lovely.

Not many cloth dolls have bold embroidered faces but this little girls has a humdinger. Blue eyes with black outline and black lower lashes and then big bold eyebrows, a U nose and oval red mouth. She has blond soft floss hair that is a work of art. She is firmly stuffed with something crunchy. She is wearing a nicely embroidered slip and pantaloons and a brown and blue flannel skirt. She is 12" tall, all hand sewn and is circa 1910-1920

Yup, she has the look, a perky hat, a kindly face, an hour glass body, basket carrying arms and sturdy legs that are continuous so she has a forced sit. She is all hand sewn, stuffed firmly with cotton, continuous legs so she sits from years of forced sitting. She is wearing a dress that looks like a jumper but isn't, the top is one with the bottom. She is 18" tall and is from the 1880's. Welcome to summer!
