Great painted face cloth doll for the 1880-90. Her face is one of a kind but painted with a very skilled hand. Her eyes almost look like glass rather than paint. Her body is continuous with arms and legs. She will sit but it is a bit of a forced sit. She is wearing a pink print dress and a pink bonnet that looks great on her. She has defined stitched fingers and toes...really cute and nicely done. She is Circa 1880-90 and is 19" tall

Antique all rag stuffed stockinette black doll with a face that says she will tell no secrets. She has on what I believe to be her original clothes, a brown and tan check dress with red trim and a bandana apron over it. She has on a petticoat that maybe was a curtain and blue and white ticking underwear. Her face is very plain with shoe button eyes and applied knit fabric for a mouth. This early cloth doll is beautifully made, all hand sewn, very firmly packed with cotton and maybe rags also, and is reinforced with a wooden stick so her head stable, no back and forth wobble. Her face is precious with bead eyes and embroidered raised nose and mouth. This beautiful painted face doll with big almond shaped eyes, large protruding nose and tiny pursed lips with just a touch of pink, is a great example of a folk art naive cloth doll. Black painted hair is scalloped around her face and touches her cute applied ears. The paint is all original. She has some crazing and loss of paint on her head but it isn't flaking and not very visible from the front. Her forearms and hands are painted the same as her face. One wrist has old cloth tape around it....

As found all hand sewn, sepia drawn face, forever clothes, (been on her forever) that are hand made and now in tones of brown. (Skirt has faded from blue to brown in the front.) I call these dolls, relics! They shouldn't be redressed in my opinion but enjoyed for what they are. A black stockinette doll with a great face and gray astrakhan hair. She is a single layer stockinette (stocking) doll when most often they are doubled layer as the maker realizes the white cotton showing through the one layer is not really black anymore but gray. Little Miss Sunshine has a delicately painted face with eyes that look so good I could swear they were glass eyes until I touched them. The are an amber color with a bit of a twinkle. Maude Witherspoon doll made in New Orleans during a period from approximately 1898 to 1915. She has an oil painted face on a cloth head and body. Her body is all original including the wild plaid legs. She is 15" tall and in good condition, having one scrape around her right eye. These dolls are one of a kind and hand painted so every face is different but the same, making them very identifiable. She has on a plaid dress and bonnet that are not original but nice. Nice homemade linen boy doll with embroidered face, cute ears, black curly hair wearing a red one piece outfit with a sweater over it. The red wool suit is sewn on with I think was a good idea by this mother. He wouldn't still have it on right now if she hadn't. Really finely carved husband and wife in hand sewn clothes from Tennessee. They are from the 1930's and you can tell that the carver was experienced. You can actually see wrinkles in their faces and the great protruding chins. Her bonnet is lovely but her hair is carved beautifully. They are fully jointed and the joints actually work. A pair of Appalachian hand carved wooden poppet dolls with original clothes. They are in excellent condition with the exception of the apron that could easily be replaced or taken off. Their names are on labels, attached to their clothing he is Uncle Jake and she is Aunt Het. They are 10" tall, bendable joints, stand on their own, and date to the 1930's.

This is an all original milliner doll with paper mache head and hand carved wooden arms and legs. She has on a brown/tan dress with a scalloped petticoat and full length pantaloons. All are hand sewn. She has on green painted shoes. You can see in the picture as well as feel the hand carving of the arms and legs. She is all cleaned up and ready to take a walk. She has peaches and cream complexion to go with her auburn hair. Her body is firm and pretty much unyielding, no sitting around for her. The blue check dress fits her very nicely and age appropriate. She is in good condition with just one little hole on the side of her chin. The pictures make it look huge but that is because she is magnified by the camera. The hole is a 1/4" hole. She is from 1910-20's, is 12" tall and looks very sweet.

Well I am not sure Mother Congress would recognize this doll unless she took off her dress. This doll has to have had many hundreds of hours of play. The dress is obviously not original but I am sure it is nicer than a lot of dresses she has worn. She is 18" tall, cotton stuffed, many stitches replaces but surprisingly no holes just a worn area at the tip of her right hand.
