This is a very nice early butterscotch checked ladies bonnet. It has the cardboard stays that can be removed for washing or for hanging on a peg rack. It has ties at the back for adjusting the size and ties in the front. Condition is good, no rips or tears but the is age discoloration and a few stains. I have taken pictures of the stains, looks like water stains in the crown of the bonnet and then on the end of one of the front ties. The bonnet is17" from top to bottom and is 12 front to back. ...

A great pair of hand knit striped pink and blue wool socks. I can just see them on the little scrub legged child with sturdy little legs running as fast as she can. There are holes and lost of darned areas. Some very well done and some done in haste and maybe not the much experience. I love that the darning tells a story how much they were valued. One side of one sock is faced. 9" and the foot is 4 1/2" long. C.1880-90

This is a sweet little 15" cloth doll with big blue eyes, pink cheeks, rosebud lips and reddish brown hair. She has a muslin body, two different arms, stockinette covered legs so I guess I would say maybe she was just too sweet and was tormented for it, that wouldn't happen these days. So here she is, all made presentable, with a blue calico dress and a white crocheted hat that is sewn on. She is cotton stuffed and sits nicely. Circa 1920

This big heavy folky rag and cotton stuffed doll with a heavily drawn pencil face is a winner. To give you an idea her face is 7" across and 7" up and down. She has a note from the owner written in 2015 saying the doll belonged to Mary Bixler, (born 1885), then to her daughter Viola Ohler, (born 1914) in York, Pennsylvania and has been in the family ever since. She suggests in the note that the doll be called Mary Viola. She is 30" tall, her arms have been recovered but have original fabric und...

Rubber head dolls are rare because the rubber didn't hold up well so many haven't survived. This one has a very beautiful face and does have some condition problems but they are not serious and her beauty shows through. She has big painted coal black eyes that are captivating. She is dressed in age appropriate clothes with brown and green roller print two piece dress, and antique petticoat and pantaloons. Her dress has several holes one on her sleeve and the other is in the back of the skirt. Sh...

Beecher dolls were designed by Julia Jones Beecher and made by a Elmira NY women's church group from 1892-1910 as a fund raiser. It is the reason for a variety of suttle details in the making of these dolls. It is not unusual to have lots of what looks like wear on their faces. The stockinette when stretched over cheeks and noses caused stress in the stockinette and the fabric was compromised from iron oxide used in making the black die. It is for that reason that many antique black cloth dolls ...

This black velvet sewing bird pin cushion is nice and early and has bead eyes, a fluffy red top of the head, and a wonderful tail. She is all hand made and is in very good condition other than a little discoloring on her underbelly. She is good sized, 5" from tip of nose to end of tail, and stands about 2" with the tail a little taller. She is firmly with cotton. She is a really nice example of an early velvet sewing bird pin cushion. She is circa 1870-80

This shoulder head papier mache doll has a beautiful painted face with great curls around her face. Her hair is pulled up in the back with curls. She has a cloth body that ends at her hips as a stump. There is no evidence that she ever had legs. Her condition is really nice except for a cracked shoulder plate on the back of the left shoulder just below the dress. She is 8 1/2" tall to the bottom of her skirt. She is circa 1830. The dress is old and pinned on but I don't know if it is original.

This wonderful perfect tiny penny wood doll in original dress and hat and painted red shoes on her tiny wooden legs. She is so tiny I have trouble picking her up. She is 1" tall with her dress just a little longer and her hat a little taller she is 1 1/2" all together. The round Dresden box is 3 3/4" in diameter and is1" tall. It has blue wall around the sides and other than a couple of scuff marks it is in good condition. I bought the doll in the box but she is just set in there on a little pie...

The nice center seam antique cloth doll has a very nice painted face and raveled yarn hair. She has stitched defined fingers and thumbs. She is made with black sateen and her body is very nicely constructed. She has ears and I like it when dolls have ears. Her ears are not that noticeable because her hair covers them somewhat. She has on a maroon polka dot dress a cotton window pane apron pantaloons all are antique and have been on her a long time. She straw stuffed, I don't see that very often....

This wondeful pencil face cloth doll is all hand sewn, is 18” tall and is circa 1870-80. Her head and body are firmly packed with rags and her arms and legs are a little softer and maybe stuffed with cotton. She has a great whimsical drawn pencil face. She has on a red calico blouse with a black bow tied around her neck and brown twill knee length pants. These clothes are sewn on and have been on her for a very long time if not original. I put on the early wrap around skirt because even thoug...

This big very folky black cloth doll with a painted face makes a powerful statement. Her head and face are very large and with the astrakhan hair shaped nicely around her face. Her painted face is worn but is still visible. She is firmly stuffed with cotton. She is jointed at shoulders, hips, and knees and is happy sitting. She is circa 1900-1920 and is 21" tall. She does have her dress but I like her without her clothes too. She is one of a kind and very special. She was bought out of a house i...

This is another example of a make-do doll. She has a very early body that probably had a china or papier mache head. It was sure easier to just make a cloth head and put it on a doll body that had a broken head than to make the whole doll. She is 24" tall and is firmly stuffed with cotton. The body is 1860 and the head is 1890, pretty cool. She is wearing a early soft red dress and a full slip and a flannel blue and white striped petticoat. She is a real character and her name is Lizzy.

This is a miniature doll, 9 1/2" with a homespun linen embroidered face. She is sewn with the tiniest of stitches. Her clothes are all original and I don’t think they have ever been off. She has on black stockings, little black cloth shoes, left shoe is shredding a little, natural linen bloomers and petticoat, then the blue calico skirt and the red calico blouse. The skirt is a great blue and early roller print. A very nice feature is the waist band of the skirt is made from the material of th...

This is a very nice 19th C. black cloth doll with strong embroidered face. She is as found and is wearing an antique plaid dress that is all hand sewn, with a very fine wool petticoat under it and knit bloomers. Her body is stockinette that is over black cotton lining and she is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs and knees are jointed. Her condition shows wear on some of the stockinette and her face has little picky holes that have been sort of mended, see picture. She is a very nice ...

This dear little doll has big pencil drawn eyes and triangle nose and an oval mouth. Her arms stand out to her sides making her look like she is spinning and twirling. She is cotton stuffed medium firm, her legs are covered with the same material as her bloomers that are sewn on. They feel like they are original. She has big feet and all I can say is my feet are big and my mother would console me with, just think of it this way you won't tip over easily. (It seemed to be the truth!) Her pink/red...
