Black cloth doll with a interesting painted face. The eyes and eyebrows are done in heavy strong strokes, her nose a little more daintily and then a sweet turn-up at the corners mouth matching the color of her dress. She has a nice hourglass shaped body, legs that also have some shape and arms that are black instead of brown. There are at least two reasons why they are a different color. The obvious is they are replaced and that is not unusual they got dragged around by their arms and they come off and if the little girl is lucky her doll got new arms. The second reason, brown and black fabric was not used as often in everyday clothes. Dolls were very often made with scraps and ends of bolts so appendages were made with different fabriwhen material was not enough to finish the project. So it is what it is, different colored arms. Her black hair is a piece of heavy upholstery fabric and it really fits the bill. She is very nice, her dress is old and fits her well but maybe was resized to fit her at some point. (See the seam down the front of the bodice.) She is 20" tall, firmly cotton stuffed and is circa 1880
