Oh my, I have owned this doll for a long time. She is a puzzle. I really like her face, the dress was on her and I have left it on because it looks nice but certainly is not original. She is straight forward with a naive painted face, starfish-like hands, big chunky legs but is unusual in the sense that she sits easily, a lot of these big girls don't. But now for the other face... I don't know. It is what it is. It looks professionally painted, why I don't know. It is a happy clown but I think it might scare a child. Children do come in all sizes and interests amd maybe one child wanted a clown doll. So I think it is interesting, I love the doll face and display her that way. I have never put a bonnet on her but if you wanted to completely hide the clown you could. So if you have any thoughts or know of other dolls that have clowns painted on them I would be interested in hearing about them. She is 22" tall, firmly stuffed with cotton and is C. 1880-90
