A plain and simple painted face black doll that is nice and early. I know when you look at pictures of her face it looks embroidered but it is a thick old paint that has taken on some grime and it looks like stitches. The dress she is wearing is a true dark red, looks brighter in the pictures than it really is, could be original. At one time the sleeves were gathered at the wrists and the neck fit better but has let go in places around the shoulders and it looks like a child has attempted to mend it. It is quite an attempt and is endearing I think. She has on old black leather shoes with red shoelaces. Her body is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her black covering has some moth holes but she is lined completely lined with a white fabric so she is not fragile at all. Her hips are very wide and her waist is small. She has a petticoat under her dress. She is as found and a very nice example of an 1880's black cloth doll. (19" tall)
