Ruby is powerful looking with a wonderful shaped face and nose and chin. Her face is drawn with sepia ink. Her hair is also done with ink. The same ink and the same era in script is the name Ruby on the middle of her back. See picture. Her head is large and I have had a number of dolls with this shaped head both black and white cloth dolls. It makes me think that maybe this type of doll was shown in women's magazines in the 1880's with patterns and directions on how to make them. She has a very nice shaped body with attached arms and legs so she sits nicely. She is firmly packed with cotton. I love the face on this doll. She is sober in looks and I know if asked she would have strong opinions and many subjects. (She also looks like she might be a baby.) Her dress fits her nicely and appears to have been on her a long time. She has several layers of whites under her dress. She is as found and circa 1880.
