This antique handsewn doll has the early sloped shoulders, with carefully pieced construction, finely embroidered face with pinched raised nose, detailed lips, eyes and eyebrows. Her body is the hourglass shape, her legs are continuous and even though she is not jointed, she sits easily. She has great astrakhan hair. She is cotton stuffed rather firmly, has sewn on socks and rounded off hands. She is wearing a skirt and blouse, petticoat and bloomers all antique but not original, just nice. The ...

This little pencil face doll is a nice little package. Even though she is 18" tall she presents herself as a small doll. She has a curvy body stuffed with cotton, east/west feet and fine little arms that are posing for the picture. She sits nicely even though she is not jointed at the hips. Her dress is sewn on but her body is all original. She is as cute as a button. 18" tall and Circa 1880

The body on this doll is graphic enough to display without clothes. She is wearing a dress I have given her but the big apron, bonnet socks and booties came with her. She is from a large collection and some of the dolls go back 40 years since they have been out in the world market. She does a forced sit, is firmly stuffed with cotton, her hands are very beautifully sewn...see photo. This doll is dynamic. 20" tall circa 1880. Condition report, She has mends on either side of her face, actually,...

This is an all linen hand sewn doll for the 1870-80s. Her hair and drawn face are well executed. Her wardrobe consisting of a two piece brown calico dress with a straw lined tiny print bonnet, a petticoat, sewn on bloomers and blue and white cotton socks from the late 1800s and they could possibly be original. She is cotton stuffed and jointed at the shoulders and the hips. She is 23" tall and a lovely lady. Some age related discoloring as well and her body has some spots front and back. There...

This is a doll with a water colorpainted face on very fine linen. This is her second face and if you look at her arms that are really worn she has had a full and busy life. I wouldn't want to take this face off, it is so nice with its little worried expression. (The second face is very old not just done.) Her body is all original, she came with a blouse and petticoat and I added the brown wool skirt. She is jointed at the shoulders, hips and knees. She is firmly stuffed with cotton. 19" and C. 1...

This doll is has a very nice painted face with contrast that is white, but I think the color might have been pink and faded. She has it on her cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. She has a pretty red mouth and dark blue eyes. She has real hair sewn to her head. She has on a full length camisole and a dress with bonnet to match. Her body is very heavy and stuffed or packed with sand. I have only had dolls with sand a few times. She has leather hands and long narrow feet. She probably has another fac...

The doll is 5 ½” to end of corn cob and another 1” to the end of the skirt. She has a sepia ink drawn face a brown (pate), the silk cap on the top of her head. Over that she has a hat with flowers. I put an elastic to hold it on. I have owned her for 30 or so years. She has a hair necklace that isn’t hair. I just looked at it with a magnifying glass and it is a cord or thread but I think it is original. I have always thought it was hair. Her silk dress is all melted. At some point, a ...

The fabric used to make this dress is just the best colors of brown and bittersweet. To add to the beauty the hem was let out to lengthen it and it so good looking it is too bad it doesn't show. The body of the dress looks and feels almost new, the arms on the other hand, are almost worn out. The left arm is so worn it is worn through. The little girl must have had a apron coverall over her dress every time she ever wore it. There are no stains, no holes on the dress itself and yet the arms a pl...

This doll is very interesting, she has a simple pigeon hole mouth and two buttons for eyes. Her clothing is kind of this and that but old. She has on a light blue polka dot skirt and simple blouse made to look important with lace and a pin and a headscarf over horse hair that makes for a very nice look. She has had these clothes on for many years, they conform to her in a way that can't tell a lie. Her body material is a very early black polished linen and she is stuffed with raw wool. She is li...

I find it impossible to like only one kind of black doll but even if I tried to think of all kinds, I would never have come up with this one. She is outrageous. She is a little easier to understand once you realize that she has faded. I think the stocking was black and over the years has faded. The back isn't as faded at the front but so you can see the varying colors in the back more so than the front. She has an applied nose, button eyes and no sign of a mouth. Her body started out as a white ...

This very beautiful black woman is hand sewn, finely embroidered face, loop fabric hair, original brown silk dress, slip and pantaloons. She has the early dropped shoulders, she is very thin, she bends at the hips but it is a forced sit. She is very firmly stuffed with cotton. Her silk dress is shredding but it has a lining of maroon that shows through and isn't too bad. I love it that she is weeearing her original dress. She is 21" tall, mitten hands, nicely shaped feet and is from the 1880s.

Antique black boy doll with an embroidered face, applied nose and a tiny straight mouth and teeth you almost can't see. He has lots of floss and thread hair skillfully sewn on. His very firm body makes me think he as a core piece of wood with cotton around it. The rest of him is firmly packed cotton. He has a forced sit and both his arms and legs have tiny fingers and toes...see pictures. He has on his original shirt but his pants are a great old replacement. The stockinette on his face has so...

I don't see oil painted faces on topsy turvys very often and this has one of the best. The choice of dress fabric compliments these two faces. The black doll has a red and brown raise embroidered design and the white doll has a black white and gray calico print. Both of the dresses have fragile areas, on the calico dress there is a hole about the size of a dime. The doll is very firmly stuffed with cotton. She is 15" from top of head to top of head, is all original and is circa 1870-80.

You know I love ears and this doll has them. She also has a center seam face with painted features, raised nose and applied astrakhan hair that has lost all of the fur. It now looks like a hat. She has a calico bittersweet color calico dress that fits her perfectly. It has several mends and is fragile on the bodice. Her body is all original with a few mends on her hands and feet. One foot is missing half the length. See pictures. She is 22" tall, stuffed firmly with cotton and is circa 1880. I t...

This special black doll is what I call a Sunday doll. Made by an experienced seamstress around the turn of the 19th C. It was made to be enjoyed by children and adults and probably not to be played with. A child would be allowed to hold or have it sitting in their bedroom. Starting at the top of her head, her hair is made of a fabric that is soft as angel hair and looks like hair. The bun at the back I think is a large coat button covered with the same material. Her face is embroidered with stro...
