This is a hand sewn and hand quilted antique doll quilt circa 1850-60. It is random and naïve and very pleasing to the eye. It has been professionally mounted. I love hanging these doll quilts on fronts and backs of doors. (I have run out of wall space!) This one is 16" by 16" and mounted 18" by 18".

This doll looks right. She is hand sewn, rag stuffed with some cotton stuffing, very big folky mitten hands and the best brown and red calico dress. She had lots of patina, (the very nice word for accumulation of dirt and soil over the years). She has on a flannel petticoat under her dress and a pair of bloomers on inside out. Why they are like that I don't know but they look okay like that. Her shoulders are jointed but her legs are not but she sits from years of sitting. She is 13" tall and a ...

This little 1890's cloth doll with a happy pencil face is hand sewn and is wearing simple clothes that are cut and basted together in the most elementary way. She is the kind of doll that got thrown away more often than not but this one survived a lot of spring cleanings and it makes her all the more special. She is circa 1890 and is 11" tall.

Surprisingly this is and always has been a bottle doll door stop. She is beautifully dressed with layers of clothes. She has flax hair, and ink drawn face with a bit of a startled look. She has on a black hat with great posies across the front. I have had a few white doll doorstops but this is by far the best. She is 15" tall and is circa 1890.

I know that look, it says, I know what you are thinking and you better not say it! I wonder if she knows that I was going to comment on her hair-do? She is hand sewn and has a linen face and body that is cotton stuffed. Her dress looks like it has been on her forever. She has red high top shoes that are sewn on, nice under clothes and real hair that might be original. Her face has a very straight pinched nose, one long of red floss stitch for her mouth and pencil drawn eyes and eyebrows. She is...

This is a firmly stuffed hand sewn black cloth doll with a very nicely embroidered face. She has big round eyes and the cutest U shaped nose and a hint of a smile mouth. She has early very fine black wool sewn on hair. She has attached arms and legs. Under her blue calico dress there is very nice antique underclothes. She has a curvy body and nice age. She is 14" tall and is circa 1880-90.

She is firmly packed with rags and cotton, how can I tell, she is very heavy and doesn't give much when you squeeze her. Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. She has a great pencil face with eyes way at the top of her face. She is old and played with and her dress reflects all of that, see pictures for shredding material. Her body is all original and her dress is old and came with he...

At first glance she looks like one to me but a southern belle all dressed up in the 1880's would not ever consider putting forth anything resembling a scowl. To give her the benefit of the doubt it is more of a pensive look. Her bright blue eyes would sparkle with a smile but she is what she is. Her face is watercolor and ink and nicely done. She is 22" tall her body is all original with continuous legs so she has a forced sit, see photos. She is wearing a pink and white calico print dress and a...

This doll has a very early body and was recovered from the waist up in the late 1800's. She feels like she has another face under this one but this has been on there so long I wouldn't want to take it off. She has layers of petticoats and then bloomers all under her blue and white period dress. She is heavy and stuffed with rags and maybe some cotton. She has a pencil face with shoe button eyes. She doesn't look like she ever had hair. She is fully jointed and sits great. Her hands have fingers ...

I am telling my age but this doll would be the best at using the mangle. She has the shoulders of a football player and her arms are mightly long. (For all of you younger than I), A mangle or wringer is a mechanical laundry aid consisting of two rollers in a sturdy frame, connected by cogs and, in its home version, powered by a hand crank or electricity. Wikipedia) My mother had the electrical kind and my younger brother put his finger in it and peeled the skin off half his finger. It was fair...

This doll is the first kind of cloth dolls that started to come to market in the 1970's. There were not many cloth dolls in shops or at shows but when I found them they were sort of like this. Simple and straight forward. She has the early hour glass figure and adding to that look is a serious leather corset that was probably made from the top of an old shoe. She is hand sewn, cotton stuffed rather firmly, nicely shaped feet, one nice leather shoe over black stockings. Her arms stop abrubtly at ...

This doll is such a cute little package. She is sturdy, firmly stuffed, and a great face. She has an applied nose, intricately embroidered eyes and homespun red lips. She has mitten hands and jointed arms and legs. She is wearing a red calico dress and a brown calico apron. Everything about her is nice. She does have a mend under her lip and a stress area over her lip. They are not fragile nor do they look like they are going to get worse. It seems to be the nature of black cloth. The iron oxcid...

This is what I call a down home or servicable antique pot holder. It looks like a odd apple with a tummy sash. It is sewn nicely but with a childish feeling to it. I am sure it was used but care was taken with it. The loop at the top looks original. It is a very nice naive pot holder from the 1840's. It is 4" by 5". I love seeing these hung.

This sweet little brown and red doll quilt is in exellent condition with just a little fraying on one edge...see close up. I like to see signs of age like this because it shows it really old. When fabric has been folded and washed and ironed the folds start breaking down the fabric, sometimes aging is a good thing. The quilt is 6" square and is backed with a double pink calico.

This is a very nice egg wash chintz brown calico bag with a tan linen lining. It has a ribbon trim across the top and around the edges of the bag. The edges only have a little of the ribbon trim left, it has worn off over the years. The bag is in really good shape and is not fragile, it could be really used. Or great to use to store items while hanging off a hook or peg rack. 10" by 13" not including the straps. Circa 1870-80

This is a small faded red calico cloth covered book with a great look and color. The book is a Primary Reader Easy Reading Lessons, 1847 Boston. It has been used almost to the of point of being worn out. The cover was cardboard and bends in the middle vertically. I think it was the iPhone of the day a child. 4" by 61/4"

"Doll with all original repairs".I read this description somewhere along the way. It makes me smile and yet I know what was meant, the repairs are not recently done and that applies here. I love her brown face and the best blue sewn on bonnet/head/hair. She has an Arnold Print Works arms and bodyand black stockinette legs. Her arms have lost most of the raw wool stuffing. Her head is not the print work fabric but is an old or older component. She is wearing very early silk and wool petticoat in...

I am partial to sister dolls and have been collecting them for years. I have always liked these two. I had dressed them, it is very hard to find two dresses alike as you can imagine and they rarely have their matching dresses 120 years later. No question the same person made both dolls. They are very firmly stuffed with cotton, jointed arms and legs, embroidered faces with that straight neutral red mouth and an embroidered nose done with black floss so it is hard to see. Their hair is the astrak...
