This very early little doll is made with wool batten, (sed as filler in homemade quilts). Probably a scrap left over and in the rag bag. Her body, arms and legs are batten, and her head is sewn linen over a ball of wool batten. Her eyes are tiny beads held on with thread and her nose is raised and stitch defined. Her mouth is 3 stitches with a hint of pink color. She is wearing a real homespun linen dress, red, white and light brown plaid, not fancy but hand sewn. She has on a ribbed fabric long pants or pantaloons, that maybe a little later. She has real hair sewn on her head that is sort of sparce from lots of years of handling. I love these little dolls that are so early. She is just a little over 6" and is circa 1860
