This really unusual black doll is from a Bucksport Maine attic and I am the second owner. There is so much to like about this doll but I want to comment on her dress. I believe it is original to her, it is two piece all hand sewn. The fabric is hand blocked and printed and it is nothing short of esquisit. See one of the pictures where her skirt is pulled up so you can see the back of the material. It is as saturated with the ink as the front. One of the ways you can tell age of a printed fabrid is to see if the design comes through to the back, the more you can see the older the fabric probably is. But here you have hand printing and the paint has completely saturated through fabric; just wonderful.
Now the doll, she certainally does justice to the dress. She is tall with a long neck and the early dropped shoulders, graceful arms and hands. She jointed at the shoulders, arms, hips and knees. Her face is embroidered with the reverse applicay eyes. Her hair is black yarn in a small two plied twist and sewn to head. This is a sit up an notice black doll.Circa 1890 and is 25" tall
