This large antique black doll has embroidered face with beads for her eyes and mouth, I have never seen this before on a black doll. Her nose I think is would and covered with embroidery floss. He eyebrows are raised also with the use of the same embroidery floss as the nose. She has the lambs wool astrakhan hair. The fabric on her face is a fine silk wool that has shredded on her cheeks but there are several layers of cloth under it so it isn't so obvious. She has mitten hands, nicely turned feet, jointed arms legs and knees so she sits easily. She is rag stuffed and is very heavy and sturdy. She has on pantaloons with matching camisole and a petticoat and black early skirt and then red and black dress with an apron over it. (Her dress is old but not antique and I think was made for her. The black skirt is antique and could be original. Her body has been recovered and patch a few times with a skilled hand. The white line on her leg is the top of a stocking. She seems to be completely hand sewn. She is a wonderful big unusual black doll, circa 1880-90 28" tall
