I have always really liked the black bottle doll doorstops. They are something I keep more than I sell. I am offering of few of mine for sale so here is the second one.
This bottle doll with her head tipped to one side and her mouth, down turned and barely visible is wearing a red polka dot dress with a shear cap and apron. I have only had one other doll with a secret and the story goes like this.
I bought the bottle doll from a picker and he was door knocking and it turns out a man had recently lost his wife and yes he did have things for sale and one item was a black bottle doll doorstop. He said his wife used to like a little drink now and then and he didn't approve. For years he tried to find where she hid her sherry. After she passed he picked up the door stop and the head lifted off and don't you know there it was the bottle of sherry!
So this doll lifts at the waist. The bottle has never been covered so it would accommodate any like sized bottle so who knows!
She is 15" tall, all original clothes, plastic loops from a curtain for earrings and she did have an embroidered mouth but most of it is gone. Maybe so she wouldn't tell secrets? She is circa 1930 and a real gem and get folk art.
