A very early black cloth doll all hand sewn with a strong beautiful embroidered face. She is constructed with a tan fabric with black heavy silk over it. She is cotton stuffed very firmly with a exaggerated hour glass figure and the early slopping shoulders. Her hair is unraveled very fine wool. She came with just a covering from the waist down and I have put on the blouse and skirt. The beads are old and were on her. She is jointed at the shoulders, hips and knees. Her condition has little to talk about. She does have a split on the first layer of silk on her face but the face has two layers of black over the base tan fabric so the tear is there but doesn't stand out. She also has scuffing of the black fabric on the tip of her nose and loss on both her hands with more on the right than the left. She is 27" tall, sits easily and is circa 1870. She is exquisite.
