She is firmly packed with rags and cotton, how can I tell, she is very heavy and doesn't give much when you squeeze her. Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. She has a great pencil face with eyes way at the top of her face. She is old and played with and her dress reflects all of that, see pictures for shredding material...

This big folk art oil cloth doll has a lot going for her. She has heavy brush stroke painted face done by some no nonsense mother. She gave her a suggestion of curls around her face, no fussy curls here! She colored her lips a dark purple but definitely not bright red. Seeing that she is all oil cloth her body is very firm as well as her legs and arms. She has wear and some cracking to the paint but not through the oil cloth, which often happens...

Bold folk art cloth doll with drawn ink face and button eyes. I love ears and she sure has them. Her body is all original, clothes are antique, she looks great in her bonnet. She is wearing socks with shoes and the shoes fit her perfectly. Sitting in a doll chair really sets her off. She is solid as a rock and is so appealing. This doll doesn't need any detective work to know that she is old and completely original. I think she has two other faces under this one but I would never take the risk of hating the other two faces and not being able to get this face back on. I often don't like to take socks off a doll. When you know by the looks that the socks have been on forever they never look the same when you take them off and put them back on. This really pretty painted face doll has a unique palate off white, gray and black with big brown eyes. She has painted black hair. She has the center seam face that I like so much and ears. I love dolls with ears I think it gives them so much character. She has a nicely shaped body, she is firmly cotton stuffed. A very interesting folk art doll with a big lollipop head, with a whimsical look on her sepia ink face. She has long neck, small solid body, short rounded off arms and turned feet. She is wearing a blue calico dress, with a nice undergarments. She is cotton stuffed. Her head leans back and forth a little but is not floppy, a surprise seeing it is so big. Her arms and legs are jointed. Her body is all original although the bottom half might be recovered or just how she was made...

This doll had the nicest look of a serene country woman. She has a long graceful neck, a slim but curvy hips and small waist. She is all original even though there is a old cloth wrap around her neck probably to stabilize her neck and it work really well. She has jointed shoulders, hips and knees. Her feet are long and nicely shaped and her ankles are thin and very nice. Her hands never did anymore than be rounded off but now one has come undone and the other is a little frayed...

This wonderful black cloth doll woman stands 24" tall, has layers of antique clothes that I feel could really be original. She is made with black cotton and her face is black sateen that is embroidered with tiny stitches. She is stuffed with cotton but not firmly so she has a soft comfy feel especially with all the layers of clothing. The softness suits her. She is 24" tall and is circa 1880-90. She is just lovely.

This wonderful topsy turvey is in almost original condition. I don't think she was played with or handled that much but is definitely old and right. Both faces are done by the same hand. This is a very dear doll in her very best dress and put together hat. Her body is all original and bends and sits well. Her blue print dress is a lovely fit and she is wearing lace trimmed pantaloons and petticoat. Her shoes are homemade and interesting. I can't believe it, this is Miss Grant my first grade teacher. It has been a lot of years but I think this is her. She has great black fabric hair that feels sort of like mohair? Boy dolls are just hard to find, fewer were made but when found they are more likely to have good clothes. Boys liked policeman, soldiers, construction workers and sailors. This is a great cloth doll with watercolor/ink painted face done with a lot of detail including the line drawn hair that I am very fond of. She is all hand sewn, rag stuffed and is heavy for her size. Her clothes are nice but not original to her. She is 21" tall, sits nicely and has the best blue eyes and pink cheeks. She has on a tan and light brown calico dress with a blue check apron over it, both are hand sewn. She was made circa 1890.

This is a very nice 19th C. black cloth doll with strong embroidered face. She is as found and is wearing an antique plaid dress that is all hand sewn, with a very fine wool petticoat under it and knit bloomers. Her body is stockinette that is over black cotton lining and she is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs and knees are jointed. The nice center seam antique cloth doll has a very nice painted face and raveled yarn hair. She has stitched defined fingers and thumbs. She is made with black sateen and her body is very nicely constructed. She has ears and I like it when dolls have ears. Her ears are not that noticeable because her hair covers them somewhat. This antique straw stuffed doll had an embroidered nose, just traces left, ink painted eyes and eyebrows and stitched and painted mouth, both a mere shadow of itself. This doll has a very soft worn kind of look. Her face is mended right down the middle and the is darkening just below her shoe button eyes but she still has a very nice sort of sad soft look. I realized I had her dress on backward when I started to photograph her. She has a really nice pocket that she has been sitting on all these years. She is 24" tall. I think she is one tough cookie. Very stern with a small little straight line for a mouth, long straight pinched nose and big button eyes outlined in red floss. She has astrakhan hair, a nice early shaped body, jointed at the shoulders and hips and packed firmly with cotton. The dress is sewn on and fits really well.
