I am partial to sister dolls and have been collecting them for years. I have always liked these two. I had dressed them, it is very hard to find two dresses alike as you can imagine and they rarely have their matching dresses 120 years later. No question the same person made both dolls. They are very firmly stuffed with cotton, jointed arms and legs, embroidered faces with that straight neutral red mouth and an embroidered nose done with black floss so it is hard to see. Their hair is the astrak...

A plain and simple painted face black doll that is nice and early. I know when you look at pictures of her face it looks embroidered but it is a thick old paint that has taken on some grime and it looks like stitches. The dress she is wearing is a true dark red, looks brighter in the pictures than it really is, could be original. At one time the sleeves were gathered at the wrists and the neck fit better but has let go in places around the shoulders and it looks like a child has attempted to men...

"Doll with all original repairs".I read this description somewhere along the way. It makes me smile and yet I know what was meant, the repairs are not recently done and that applies here. I love her brown face and the best blue sewn on bonnet/head/hair. She has an Arnold Print Works arms and bodyand black stockinette legs. Her arms have lost most of the raw wool stuffing. Her head is not the print work fabric but is an old or older component. She is wearing very early silk and wool petticoat in...

This dear little black doll came right out of a house in Tennessee. She has the best thread hair, embroidered face, button eyes, pinched raised nose and lots of little and not so little mends on her face. She has a painted red mouth that can be seen if you look carefully, it is really faded. I have made the mends more visible by lightening the closeup picture but in regular light, they are hardly noticeable. She is firmly stuffed with cotton, jointed at the shoulders and legs. Her body is all or...

This is a lovely homespun linen doll with a painted face, fully jointed body, articulated hands and a whole lot of sweetness. She has big brown soulful eyes. She is cotton stuffed rather firmly. Her two piece blue outfit is really nice and could be original. She is 25" tall and is circa 1892. There is a note that comes with her that states she is from Ohio and gives some family names. It is nice when a bit of history can accompany a doll.

This is a small faded red calico cloth covered book with a great look and color. The book is a Primary Reader Easy Reading Lessons, 1847 Boston. It has been used almost to the of point of being worn out. The cover was cardboard and bends in the middle vertically. I think it was the iPhone of the day a child. 4" by 61/4"

This is a very nice egg wash chintz brown calico bag with a tan linen lining. It has a ribbon trim across the top and around the edges of the bag. The edges only have a little of the ribbon trim left, it has worn off over the years. The bag is in really good shape and is not fragile, it could be really used. Or great to use to store items while hanging off a hook or peg rack. 10" by 13" not including the straps. Circa 1870-80

This is a tiny wonderful survivor, a brown calico doll quilt with 1/2" square pieces. It is naive and rough and must have been a real challenge to the child sewing it. The brown fabric is weak and fragile with holes in almost all of the solid brown squares, all the other fabrics are fine. It is what it is and not for everyone, only nuts like me that think it is a work of art. 4" by 5 1/2" and Circa 1830

This sweet little brown and red doll quilt is in exellent condition with just a little fraying on one edge...see close up. I like to see signs of age like this because it shows it really old. When fabric has been folded and washed and ironed the folds start breaking down the fabric, sometimes aging is a good thing. The quilt is 6" square and is backed with a double pink calico.

A very nice early heart shaped pin cushion made to hang from a hook or tied on to the side of a sewing basket. It is in fine condition with some pins still in it so it has been used. It is hand sewn and stuffed with cotton. The fabrics have wonderful saturated colors. It is 5" by 4" wide and 2" thick...see pictures. It is Circa 1870. The pincushions were common in New England and I have found this same shape made by the Shakers for their sewing boxes.

This is what I call a down home or servicable antique pot holder. It looks like a odd apple with a tummy sash. It is sewn nicely but with a childish feeling to it. I am sure it was used but care was taken with it. The loop at the top looks original. It is a very nice naive pot holder from the 1840's. It is 4" by 5". I love seeing these hung.

This dear miniature potholder was probably made as a study piece for a young girls schooling and given as a present to her mother or grandmother. It is a study of using wool and silk fabric together and still has the original bow and hanging ribbon. The red and blue homespun is very finely woven and the silk binding is very nicely sewn around the edges. It has a couple very small moth nibbles. The back is a very fine black wool fabric.

This doll is such a cute little package. She is sturdy, firmly stuffed, and a great face. She has an applied nose, intricately embroidered eyes and homespun red lips. She has mitten hands and jointed arms and legs. She is wearing a red calico dress and a brown calico apron. Everything about her is nice. She does have a mend under her lip and a stress area over her lip. They are not fragile nor do they look like they are going to get worse. It seems to be the nature of black cloth. The iron oxcid...
