This doll has talked to me for a while now. I listen to her and look and have learned more each day. She has the most wonderful worn leather face. I don't think she ever had features. If she had an ink face it would seem you could see a hint of a face. She didn't have an embroidered face, no holes. Maybe pencil...Growing up I loved dolls but all my dolls had faces. I didn't know about Amish doll back then so I don't know how I would have felt by a blank face. I don't think or get the feel she is...

This doll couldn't get much cuter. She is a tight package, stuffed with cotton, the clothes fit her perfectly, figuratively and otherwise. Her face is made as a separate piece of fabric like it was a second face but after looking carefully at her I think it is her original face and it was how she was made. She has on pantaloons, petticoat and calico brown and tan print dress. On her head she is wearing an old straw hat theat is coming apart a little but is so great on her. I think everything mig...

This the second one I have ever owned, a black doll with a coconut for her head. (There are three pictured in the book, (Black Dolls, From the collection of Deborah Neff.) This dear worried doll is 23" tall. Her body is black cotton and softly stuffed. Her head rests on her chest and I think it always has. Her clothes I think are original, a nice blue and white linen fabric blouse and skirt. Underneath she has on a cotton petticoat and a pretty tan scarf around her neck and a couple of head scar...

This little black rag doll has on flannel pants and a tan and blue striped pants. The clothes are not original and he may not have had clothes originally. They are cute and fit him well. He is cotton stuffed rather firmly. He has neutral pencil face but I wide line for his mouth that makes him look happy. He is a wonderful simple all American rag doll. He is 14" tall and circa 1900

This pin cushion makes quite a statement. It has wonderful calico print fabrics in soft red, blue and brown. It is 7" square and is 3 1/2" thick and very heavy. You can see that it did have pins stuck in it at one time. It was made to be used. This is the best pin cushion! C. 1880 with some of the fabrics earlier.

The wooden doll fragment has some original paint. She is all one piece of wood even her tiny nose. She has a touch of original pink on both cheeks. She has some black paint on part of the back of her head that was her hair. She feels lovely to the touch. She is a real treasure. She is not quite 8" tall and is circa 1790-1820.

This is a very country version of an early the Georgian era wooden doll. She is painted gray and I think it is the original paint. The features are carved into the face and she has one tooth right in the middle of her mouth. She is about 7" tall and has nice worn patina. She is circa 1790-1820 and is very dear.

This large antique black doll has embroidered face with beads for her eyes and mouth, I have never seen this before on a black doll. Her nose I think is would and covered with embroidery floss. He eyebrows are raised also with the use of the same embroidery floss as the nose. She has the lambs wool astrakhan hair. The fabric on her face is a fine silk wool that has shredded on her cheeks but there are several layers of cloth under it so it isn't so obvious. She has mitten hands, nicely turned fe...

These darling 2 1/2" tall Koala bears are antique velvet. They have some kind of metal buttons for eyes and noses. Their little paws wrap around the real nut shells. They have old red ribbons around their necks. The ribbons are old but may not be original. The velvet has lost some of the pile but it is not noticeable with the foundation fabric being the same color. They are a little bit soft with an inner core of wood so they sit nicely. You can tell they are best friends. Circa 1890

This is a beautiful antique hand sewn velvet horse that has blue ribbon qualities in design. The velvet is very fine and early like you see and feel in the best antique velvet fruit. He is a rich chestnut brown. He stands tall with a lovely arched neck. He has bead eyes and pinned on ears but seems like it is the same matching velvet. He has a lovely mend on his right side, see pictures. Also refer to the pictures for the condition report. He has seam has been resewn under his belly. He has smal...

This squirrel is so cute, when do you ever see squirrel toys? (In the early 1800's squirrels were pets. In early paintings of children, a squirrel in a cage would be sitting beside them.) This one is a quiet no need to feed squirrel and a few generations later. He is a soft worn red calico material with stars and birds. He is alert and checking out the world while he is holding a red little disk in hands, maybe a red berry. He is soft stuffed and other than age and play related discoloration he...

This adorable dog has the look we all know, I really need a cookie, really really need a cookie. How could you say no. He is made with the early short pile velvet. He has one seam on his chest that is a little weak. No holes or breaks. He has shoe button eyes and great puffy ears and a tail that says happiness. He is 7 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" long. He stands on his on when put in position but his back legs want to spread if he stays like that for hours. I am told he is Amish and from Indiana. He i...

This is a very nice black cloth doll from Maine. She has a blank face and doesn't look like she every had features. Her hair is mohair but most of the hair is gone, although some still is remaining in the front. She is a nice brown cotton broadcloth. She is wearing soft blue calico dress with matching calico pink fabric trim. She is cotton stuffed and rather firmly packed. Her arms and legs are jointed so she sits nicely. She is 18" tall and is circa 1910.

This rag stump doll is all original other than the bonnet I put on her. She has a drawn pencil face. her dress goes up into her head in the back so she was rolled and wrapped and part of the material in the dress is in the head. Maybe to keep the dress on. She has a fine piece of linen over the cotton for her face and it wraps around and is sewn on the back of her head. See picture and also note the brown thread that may have held on some kind of hair. Her arms are rolled and are attached to her...

This is an all original milliner doll with paper mache head and hand carved wooden arms and legs. She has on a brown/tan dress with a scalloped petticoat and full length pantaloons. All are hand sewn. She has on green painted shoes. You can see in the picture as well as feel the hand carving of the arms and legs. You can see she has crazing on her face but it is not fragile or flaking off. Her clothing is in good condition but has age related discoloring. She is 10" tall and is circa 1840. This...

This is a big very uncomplicated black cloth doll with a straight forward embroidered face. She is made from black sateen fabric. She is cotton stuffed pretty firmly. Her arms are sewn on but her legs are continuous. But like many of the dolls made this way, she sits nicely having been forced to sit for many years. Her dress fits really nicely but I doubt that it is original. Her pantaloons are sewn on but there are no holes or tears anywhere on her. The fabric on her face has been roughed up a ...

Alice has blue eyes, orange nose and red line mouth that is sad or more likely it was straight across and now the ends are not tacked down so they droop. She is hand sewn from a nice homespun linen but her legs are a cotton and of a lesser quality. I think the legs are original maybe they ran out of the homespun. She has on a sweet white dress with lace at the top and front for trim and a belt sewn on with the name, Alice, embroidered on it. Over that she has on a gray dress that doesn't meet at...

This is quite the scrap book. The back and front are cloth covered in blue and white calico. The pages are also cloth with stitching around all the edges. The trade and advertising cards are glued down on both sides of the fabric. The pages are bound together by three holes and each page and tied with a yellow ribbon. There are 11 pages, 22 sides, and one 1/2 page that is original and not cut but just a 1/2 page with cards on both sides. It is a fascinating collection and a wonderful blue calico...
